This work aims to propose an analysis on the colloquial register and the translation, from Spanish to Italian, of five short stories: El desentierro de la angelita, La Virgen de la tosquera, El aljibe, Chicos que vuelven e Cuándo hablábamos con los muertos.
These short stories are included in the book Los peligros de fumar en la cama, a psychological horror collection written by the Argentine author and journalist, Mariana Enríquez. This book was first published in Argentina in 2009, but the first Italian translation dates back to 2023.
This work is divided into four chapters. The first one explores the historical-literary context, dealing with the military dictatorship in Argentina that ruled from 1976 to 1983 and the new generation of writers, called Nueva Narrativa Argentina, to which Mariana Enríquez belongs.
However, the second chapter is focused on a linguistic analysis, concerning the general features of the language of Argentina. Furthermore, it includes the main aspect of this insight, or rather, the colloquial register whit its application on the translated texts.
The third chapter contains my proposal of translation of the five selected stories.
Finally, the last chapter includes the translation commentary within which I will explain the main problems that I have found during the translation process and the strategies that I used to solve them.
