Il nucleo centrale del presente elaborato si propone di esaminare il libro per bambini "The Boy Who Slept Through Christmas" nell’ottica della multimodalità, che si riferisce all’utilizzo di diverse modalità, ognuna con un potenziale unico, per comunicare significati su vari livelli e con sfumature differenti.
La struttura della presenti tesi si articola in tre macro aree, corrispondenti ai rispettivi capitoli: il commento del libro, una proposta di traduzione di una porzione selezionata del testo e l’analisi traduttologica.
All’interno del primo capitolo, sarà dedicato un focus specifico all’analisi delle varie modalità utilizzate dall’autore e dall’illustratore per attirare l’attenzione dei lettori, sia in fase di marketing che durante la lettura del testo. Questo approfondimento procederà dall’esterno verso l’interno: dallo studio della sovraccoperta fino a quello dei differenti font implementati all’interno del testo.
Nel secondo capitolo, verrà presentata una proposta di traduzione personale, riguardante sia parti della narrazione, sia le canzoni ivi contenute.
Infine, il percorso di analisi culminerà con il terzo capitolo, con l’analisi traduttologica che si concentrerà sulle sfide e le difficoltà che possono sorgere durante il processo di trasposizione di un testo per bambini da una cultura all’altra. Questa fase mira a esplorare le sfumature culturali e linguistiche del testo, nonché il conseguente tentativo di trasporle e adattarle nella maniera più adeguata possibile alla cultura di arrivo.

The central object of this study is to examine "The Boy Who Slept Through Christmas", a children’s book, through the lens of multimodality. Multimodality refers to the use of different modes, each one offering unique potential, to convey meanings across various levels and with nuanced distinction.
The thesis is structured into three main sections, corresponding to the respective chapters: an analysis of the book, a proposed translation of a selected portion of the text, and its subsequent analysis.
In the first chapter, particular emphasis will be placed on dissecting the diverse techniques employed by both the author and illustrator to captive readers’ attention, both in marketing strategies and during the act of reading itself. This comprehensive examination will progress from the external elements to the internal ones: commencing with an investigation of the dust jacket and extending it to an exploration of the varied fonts implemented within the text.
Moving to the second chapter, a personal proposal for translation will be outlined, encompassing not only sections of the narrative but also the songs embedded within it.
Finally, the analysis will conclude with the third chapter, which will delve into the analysis of the previously presented translation, focusing on the challenges and complexities inherent in the process of transposing texts for children from one culture to another. This phase aims to explore the cultural and linguistic subtleties of the text, as well as to undertake the subsequent endeavor to transpose and adapt them in a manner best suited to the target culture.
