Summary
This thesis work aims to study and develop a new burner operating with hydrogen and hydrogen-methane mixtures that will be used in the paper industry for drying paper.
The aim is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in a very energy-intensive and impactful sector.
Furthermore, The paper industry is almost totally dependent on natural gas as an energy source and the development of alternative sources is necessary to implement strategies for the diversification of sources and security on the supply of them.
A test bench is then assembled in which the burner can burn pure hydrogen in different conditions of temperature and humidity of the combustion air.
Lastly, a simplified economic analysis is made of various price scenarios for electricity, gas and hydrogen to highlight the current inconvenience of using hydrogen compared to natural gas.
