Il lavoro consiste in una proposta di traduzione di Sugar Mummies di Tanika Gupta dall'inglese all'italiano. Presento la scrittrice e le sue opere nell’ambito della multiculturalità e le caratteristiche principali di Sugar Mummies, nello specifico la varietà linguistica presente nel testo. In seguito, espongo le problematiche che ho incontrato nella traduzione del testo a livello stilistico, semantico e pragmatico. La scelta primaria che ho fatto è quella tra la strategia esotizzante e quella familiarizzante nella specificità del testo teatrale, nel quale il traduttore deve confrontarsi con la rappresentabilità delle parole. Uno degli elementi più importanti in Sugar Mummies è la varietà linguistica presente nel testo originale, che è difficile da rendere in italiano e questo, inevitabilmente, comporta delle perdite; nel commento alla traduzione individuo le parti in cui non è stato possibile riportare le diverse varietà della lingua. I realia, il turpiloquio e la comicità sono gli altri elementi che ho preso in considerazione nella riflessione sulla traduzione e ho riportato le possibili soluzioni in italiano.

This work consists of a translation proposal of the dramatic text Sugar Mummies by Tanika Gupta from English to Italian. In the first chapter I present the writer and her works in the discourse of multiculturalism and the main characteristics of Sugar Mummies, highlighting the language variety of the text. In the second chapter, I explain the problems I encountered in translating the text at a stylistic, semantic and pragmatic level. The primary choice I made is that between the translation strategies exposed by Venuti, the foreignization and domestication. Then I reflect on the specificity of the theatrical text, in which the translator reflects on the performability of the words. One of the most important elements in Sugar Mummies is the language variety, which is difficult to translate into Italian and the translation results in semantic and pragmatic losses; I focus on some examples to describe the strategies I used to translate the languages and the register of the original text. Other elements I highlighted are realia, foul language and comedy and the choices I made between foreignization and domestication.
