Summary
An exiled german lawyer, Franz Neumann, wrote an interesting essay about dictatorship, while he was teaching as researcher at the Columbia University in New York city after having been ousted from Nazi Germany in the early thirties. He analyzed Hitler's regime in order to explain the extreme ruthlessness and the distrust of the law of such organization. Accordingly Neumann expressed his assessments in a general theory which showed the social origins and the psycological tecniques used by dictators to compell their subjects to obey. He particularly warned modern mass societies which are extremely exposed to the risk of losing both liberty and democracy due to the action of specific economic interest groups. My work aims to define how Neumann get to the theory and what were his thoughts and his achievements.
