Analytical summery

With this work I tackled the pièce Ton beau capitaine by Simone Schwarz-Bart from a literary point of view and then I commented my Italian translation (Il tuo bel capitano) by using some critical instruments of theatrical and literary translation. After a brief introduction to the author and her work, the literary comment aims at analyzing the main topics of this pièce: exile, immigration and separation of the couple. This analysis is carried on through the identification of some semantic and lexical networks which are drawn on metaphors related to the water and the air elements. Afterwards I move on to the examination of the “language supplementaire” of music and dance whereby both characters express their feelings and emotions which cannot be articulated by words. In my comment to Il tuo bel capitano I explained how my adherence to the original text is due, when possible, to my willingness of preserving the estrangement effect on the Italian reader of terms and images. By this device, I intended to avoid the domestication of the original text and trigger the curiosity of the reader.
