Riassunto
The project of the Narkomfin’s satellite was born with the purpose of bringing back to life the collective functions that the building lost due to the restoration.
Nowadays the Narkomfin is almost entirely residential, it doesn’t satisfy anymore any need of collectivity. But is it possible to reach the same levels of collectivity people had back in the 30s? Do people want it?
Back in time the collectivity was generated by an ideology, by an authoritarian and military character; today the aim is to build a club breaking the ties with the ideology and the necessity that had generated that kind of building for years.
This contemporary club embodies the most important aspects that characterize the workers’ clubs. It hosts spaces where people can relax such as a library or a health center, spaces for sport activities with a pool and gym, but also a restaurant, a museum that runs through the history of Narkomfin building and, at last, a 150 seats auditorium with its foyer and a cafeteria.
The project also investigates about the possibility of completing Ginzburg’s original plan for that urban sector.
From 1928 to 1933 Ginzburg proposed four different planes for the Narkomfin complex which had to be composed of 4 buildings: residential block, services’ block, laundry and a kindergarden. Today the only missing piece is the kindergarten and that’s the reason why, in this thesis, it’s been designed right where it was supposed to be.
