Il presente elaborato di tesi si inserisce nel progetto di tirocinio svolto presso lo stabilimento della Paper Converting Machine Company (PCMC) di Fornaci di Barga (LU), azienda presente sul mercato mondiale con soluzioni che coprono l’intero processo di trasformazione del tissue e facente parte del gruppo americano Barry-Wehmiller. Il progetto “Inventory Strategy for Consumables”, recentemente avviato in azienda, ha l’obiettivo di definire e successivamente implementare nuovi metodi per la gestione dei consumabili, in quanto, il verificarsi di una gestione impropria di questi articoli comporta inevitabili problemi di ordine logistico e perdite di tempo e, dunque, costi. Lo studio è partito dall’analisi delle metodologie adottate, al fine di individuarne i punti di forza e di debolezza per poi concentrarsi sull’individuazione del giusto compromesso fra la minimizzazione delle scorte e la massimizzazione del livello di servizio. Successivamente, dopo aver effettuato delle simulazioni al riguardo siamo passati ad implementare, per ciascuna categoria, le giuste soluzioni. I risultati ottenuti hanno permesso notevoli risparmi, ben al di sopra delle aspettative, e un miglioramento generale dei flussi attraverso l’eliminazione delle attività senza valore aggiunto.

This thesis work is part of the internship project carried out at the Paper Converting Machine Company (PCMC) plant in Fornaci di Barga (LU), a company present on the world market with solutions that cover the entire tissue converting process and part of the American group Barry-Wehmiller. The "Inventory Strategy for Consumables" project, recently launched in the company, is intended to define and subsequently implement new methods for the management of consumables, as the occurrence of improper management of these items involves inevitable problems logistic and waste of time and, therefore, costs. The study started from the analysis of the methodologies adopted, in order to identify their strengths and weaknesses and then focus on identifying the right compromise between minimizing stocks and maximizing the level of service. Subsequently, after carrying out some simulations in this regard, we moved on to implement, for each category, the right solutions. The results obtained have allowed significant savings, well above expectations, and a general improvement in flows through the elimination of activities without added value.
