The following work is a translation from French into Italian of Nous sommes tous des playmobiles, a collection of short stories by the contemporary Belgian author Nicolas Ancion. The translation is accompanied by an introduction, which provides background information on the author and the socio-cultural context in which the work was produced. It also draws attention to the links between this work and some other literary and cultural aspects of Belgian society. Next, a commentary on the text sheds light on the difficulties encountered in the translation and discusses some of the more interesting linguistic choices that the translator made. A significant part of this commentary is devoted to the unusual story Bruxelles insurrection, which thanks to its particularly Belgian and metalinguistic features offers a partial view on the often stormy cultural relations between France and the Francophonie. Finally, a glossary offers supplementary information on all those usages, objects, persons, traditions and expressions (in some cases these have been translated and in others preserved in the original), which are typical of Franco-Belgian culture and are not readily comprehensible to the Italian reader.
