La tesi tratta degli sviluppi storici del calcolo tensoriale, con un introduzione dedicata alla storia della geometria differenziale con particolare enfasi sul concetto di curvatura. Questo perché originariamente la tesi è stata ispirata dallo studio dell'evoluzione della teoria della relatività generale, in cui il concetto di curvatura è centrale e a cui è dedicato un paragrafo della tesi.
In seguito sono stati analizzati tre trattati, uno di Severi e due di Levi-Civita, in cui emergono i legami tra curvatura e trasporto parallelo; si è cercato di mettere in evidenza i diversi approcci che sono stati seguiti.

The thesis is about the historical developments of tensor calculus, with an introduction dedicated to the history of differential geometry with particular emphasis on the concept of curvature. This is because the thesis was originally inspired by the study of the evolution of the theory of general relativity, in which the concept of curvature plays a central role and to which a paragraph of the thesis is dedicated.
Subsequently, three treatises were analysed, one by Severi and two by Levi-Civita, in which the links between curvature and parallel transport emerge; an attempt was made to highlight the different approaches that were followed.
