This experimental thesis is dedicated to the assessment of the weed containment capacity in the vineyard under-row through the artificial grassing technique made with a cover crop based on Trifolium subterraneum. The aspects taken into consideration in the survey are the ability to control the development of the weed flora and the influence that the cover crop has had on the quality and quantity of production. The experimental test was conducted in a San Giovese vineyard located at a winery in the province of Pisa and involved the comparison between the management of the vineyard under-row with the company method, normally used in organic vineyards (inter-row processing), grassing with Trifolium subterraneum only in the sub-row and the total grassing of the vineyard surface with clover on the row and a mixture of selected essences in the rows. In this thesis Trifolium subterraneum was evaluated during its first year of life after sowing. During the growing season, surveys were conducted to verify the development of the adventitious flora in all three theses and the development of clover in the two grassy theses. In addition, phenological surveys of the vines, soil analyzes and qualitative-quantitative analyzes on production were carried out. Overall, the results obtained with grassing are interesting, as clover has proved to be a competitive species against weeds and no negative interactions with the vines have occurred. In this thesis there is only a part of the experimental work that is currently still in progress with the aim of evaluating the effects of grassing with Trifolium subterraneum in the long term and expanding the aspects of the research considered so far.
