Riassunto
In today's rapidly changing world, where concerns about global warming and climate change loom large, we must address the importance of recovering heat from industries. The industrial sector is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, making it crucial to implement strategies that mitigate its environmental impact. One such strategy involves the recovery of heat generated during industrial processes.
Another important possibility for fighting global warming is developing carbon capture technologies, that become crucial for energy-intensive industry processes with inherent CO2 emissions, such as cement, pulp and paper, steel and refineries.
The point of this project is to combine these two topics obtaining a reduction of CO2 emissions with the help of waste heat. It’s, also, important to highlight the different solutions obtained according to the type of industry analyzed and underling the possible relevance of heating pumps in the feating.
Tasks of the project:
• Mapping of industrial waste heat and CO2 emissions in the main energy-intensive industries of Sweden, Italy and Germany. This task is going to be completed using “the European waste heat map”, the sustainability reports of each manufacturer and the “European Industrial Emissions Portal”
• Analysing specific cases from different industries and to propose different solutions of CO2 capture in combination with the waste heat available from the industrial process.
The choice of the company will be based on the results of the mapping, that will provide information about where there are available lare-scale CO2 emissions in combination with waste heat that may be used for the capture process. The selection will also be based on the possibilities for generalisations of the conditions at the specific cases.
