Riassunto
In the current context, in which artificial intelligence (AI) permeates more and more areas of our daily lives, the question of ethics in the implementation of algorithms takes on a leading role. From personalized recommendation systems to sophisticated diagnostic algorithms in the medical field, AI applications promise to revolutionize the way we live, work and interact. However, along with the immense potential, significant concerns emerge regarding the ethical implications of the technology. This thesis aims to explore the crucial importance of ethics in the implementation of AI algorithms, placing particular emphasis on the challenges, responsibilities and strategies needed to ensure that AI is developed and used responsibly.
The objective of this research work is therefore twofold. First, it aims to identify and analyze the main ethical issues that arise with the development and application of AI, including but not limited to issues of bias and discrimination, privacy, transparency, security and social impact. Secondly, it aims to offer an overview of existing proposals and ethical guidelines for AI, evaluating their effectiveness and suggesting improvements or alternatives where necessary. Through the examination of case studies, the analysis of ethical principles and the questioning of experts in the field, this thesis aspires to significantly contribute to the debate on ethics in AI, providing original insights and practical recommendations for developers, researchers, policy makers maker and society as a whole.
The research methodology adopted in this thesis is based on a multidisciplinary approach, which integrates the analysis of existing literature, the study of concrete cases and direct interaction with the field through interviews with experts. This allows us not only to address the complexity and multidimensionality of ethics in AI, but also to grasp the different perspectives and multiple challenges that characterize this rapidly evolving field of research.
The structure of the work is organized in such a way as to guide the reader through a gradual understanding of the topic, starting from an overview of the basics of artificial intelligence to get to the more specific ethical issues and proposed solutions. After an introduction to the field of AI and its historical evolution, we will analyze the main ethical issues in detail, using concrete examples to illustrate the problems and potential solutions. Finally, existing ethical guidelines will be presented and discussed, with a particular focus on their practical applications and remaining challenges.
