Summary
This thesis delves into the exploration of active magnetic regeneration as a sustainable and efficient approach for hydrogen liquefaction at cryogenic temperatures. The primary objective is to provide a thorough investigation of magneto-caloric material properties, critical for accurately predicting the performance of an active magnetic regenerator (AMR). The study employs two distinct 1D models, one considering the heat transfer fluid as an incompressible fluid and the other taking into account the compressibility of the fluid. A comparison of the device performances predicted by the two models is presented for different operational conditions. The research seeks to enhance the understanding of AMR systems in the context of hydrogen liquefaction by exploring various configurations. Starting with an AMR device employing a single layer of magneto-caloric material, the investigation progresses to the addition of a second layer, ultimately aiming to develop a multiple-layer device capable of operating across a broader cryogenic temperature range.
