Riassunto
Nowadays, the challenges posed by the development of IP networks, such as the integration of billions of devices and millions of services in the cloud, are being faced by fixed and mobile telecom operators, enterprise network operators, and cloud service providers. Segment Routing, which is currently being accepted and deployed, can help to face these challenging demands. Segment Routing is based on the source routing paradigm, which addresses the existing drawbacks of Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) networks in terms of simplicity, manageability and scalability. Since it significantly minimizes the amount of state information that must be specified in the core nodes to support complex services, it has interesting scalability properties. Firstly, segment routing architecture was implemented with the MPLS data plane, which does not require any changes to the MPLS forwarding plane. Then, recently, it was implemented with the IPv6 data plane (SRv6). Thanks to Segment Routing technology, it is easy to address customer’s dynamic traffic requirements from high-level application. In this thesis work I present research on Segment Routing technology and a comprehensive study of segment routing over MPLS and IPv6 data planes. I also present the analysis of SR traffic engineering by the implementation of Segment Routing Traffic Engineering over MPLS and IPv6 data planes in the network environment based on GNS3 network emulator.
