Summary
While certain areas in central Tuscany draw in large numbers of tourists yearly, rural areas, especially in northern Tuscany, struggle to attract the same amount of attention. Traditional food products and those bearing geographical indications (GI), including Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), Traditional Agricultural Products (TAP), and Transhumance products, hold immense potential to transform rural areas in northern Tuscany and attract both Italian and foreign visitors while fostering a sustainable and inclusive tourism ecosystem. The purpose of this work is threefold: to analyze the degree to which tourists understand the meaning of the term “traditional products”, to assess the level of interest in traditional food products and whether they might serve as a potential pulling factor, and to evaluate possible strategies to draw in visitors and promote traditional products, thus contributing to the local economy and supporting rural resilience.
