Indo-European archetypes have a dual nature within Irish literature. Ghosts, witches, heroes and fairy creatures are multifaceted, to the point where a ghost is not only a haunting presence but part of a mythological race, the hero is a god, leprechauns could originate from divinities and the witch is a mere mortal woman, heroine or goddess, if not all three.
These archetypes have been used to reformulate stories about them after the so-called heroic age, precisely during the Celtic Revival. Through the comparison of Early Irish tales and the works of W. B. Yeats and other authors, it is possible to conclude that the duality in nature of these archetypes is extremely rich in Irish literature and culture.

Gli archetipi indoeuropei presentano una doppia natura, così avviene anche nella letteratura irlandese. Fantasmi, streghe, eroi e creature fantastiche sono sfaccettati, al punto tale che un fantasma non è solamente una presenza inquietante, ma parte di una razza mitica, l'eroe è anche un dio, i leprecauni potrebbero derivare da una ridotta forma divina e la strega è una donna mortale, un'eroina o una dea, se non tutte e tre. Questi archetipi sono stati usati per riformulare storie che li riguardano dopo il "periodo eroico", più precisamente durante il Celtic Revival. Attraverso la comparazione di racconti irlandesi e le loro riformulazioni ad opera di W. B. Yeats e altri autori, è possibile concludere che la doppia natura di questi archetipi risulta decisamente abbondante nella letteratura e cultura irlandese.
