In Chapter 2 Positron Emission Tomography,
Magnetic Resonance and different methods to combine PET and MRI are described; in Chapter 3 PET insert approach to the combination of
PET and MRI is presented; technical challenges will be discussed and existing PET insert solutions will be reviewed; Chapter 4 presents the MADPET4 prototype and the MRI scanner in which the MADPET4 will be inserted; in Chapter 5 a detailed description of the simulation software COMSOL Multiphysics and the planning of simulations in terms of geometry, PET
components models and physical settings is reported; in Chapter 6 results obtained by the simulations are shown and finally, in Chapter 7, conclusions and outlook of future works are presented. Finally, in Appendix A, a mathematical explanation of the finite element method is reported.
