Abstract (Inglese)
Abstract (Italiano)
The Upper Palaeolithic record in Greece is highly fragmented, few sites are currently known that testify evidence of frequentation from the earliest phases of the Upper Palaeolithic and, in some cases, a complete analysis of the materials has yet to be published. However, the revision of materials already studied according to new lines of research and new excavations underway are already enriching the Greek documentation with new data and new research perspectives.
The aim of this study is first and foremost to provide a comprehensive overview of the state of the art on the earliest phases of the Upper Palaeolithic, providing a solid basis of comparison for future research.
The literature review shows the currently known sites with a focus on studies carried out on lithic industries, also paying careful attention to problems related to the interpretation of the stratigraphy of the sites.
Finally, the main trends in lithic complexes are outlined in order to provide a complete picture as a background for future studies.
