Summary
The first part concerns the reverse engineering and the analysis of a popular Peer to Peer Streaming IPTV client: the aim is to understand the topology structure. Performance metrics as startup delay, chunk size and number of peers involved during the video streaming are also evaluated. The most relevant part of this thesis is the modeling of an open source, multiple-tree based peer to peer system for real time distribution. Scalability and reliability of the protocol are tested by experiments on PlanetLab, a global research network that supports the development of new network services. The design of this testbed implies code modifies, monitoring of a large number of parameters and data collecting from every node.
