L'allitterazione è una delle caratteristiche peculiari degli 'Annales'di Ennio: non è un caso, infatti, che alcuni frammenti sono stati conservati dalla tradizione indiretta, per merito di retori e grammatici antichi interessati allo studio delle figure retoriche. L'analisi sistematica delle allitterazioni, delle loro funzioni e degli effetti che conferiscono al testo può fare chiarezza sull'origine di alcuni termini e nessi impiegati nel poema e sulla loro fortuna. Inoltre, essa può rivelarsi utile in campo fonetico e filologico, nella discussione di alcune questioni testuali riguardanti parole allitteranti.

Alliteration is one of the most important features in Ennius’ 'Annales'. It is a matter of fact that some fragments have been preserved by the indirect tradition, thanks to rhetoricians and grammarians who were interested in the study of rhetorical figures. The systematic analysis of alliterations, with their functions and effects, can shed light on the origin of some words and connections used in the poem, as well as on their fortune. Furthermore, it can be useful in the phonetic and philological fields, for example in the discussion of textual questions concerning alliterating words.
