Summary
The present study shows results for pressure and velocity investigations of the flow around rectangular cylinders with different aspect ratios.
The pressure analysis focuses on the evaluation of the mean pressure coefficient and of its standard deviation on the surface of the cylinders considered. In particular, the effect of the Reynolds number and of the edge rounding are studied. The aim is also to see how the aspect ratio affects the behaviour of the flow, in particular it is highlighted that a side ratio of three does not allow flow reattachment, side ratios equal or greater than five allow flow reattachment and a side ratio of four is an intermediate case between a side ratio of five and three. Pressure values over the cylinder side allow to do also a correlation analysis.
A velocity analysis for a side ratio of three is also carried out through an anemometric probe in order to describe the velocity field. The edge rounding effect is taken in account to see if this parameter plays an important role. Further results are carried out with the frequency analysis, in order to highlight the presence of the frequencies of the main phenomena characterizing the flow, i.e. Kelvin-Helmholtz and vortex shedding.
