Summary
Jeanette Winterson is a British writer born in Manchester on 27 August 1957. She was adopted by an evangelic Pentecostal couple, who brought her up in Accrington, Lancastershire, hoping she would become a Christian missionary. At the age of 16, she confessed she had a lesbian romance and left home. In this thesis we will analyse the early production of the author, from 1985 to 1994, and in particular themes like homosexuality, the relationship with God, love in a general as well as in a religious and homosexual sense. We will also analyse Winterson's harsh critique of Church as an institution and of phallologocentrism.
