Summary
The purpose of this thesis is to exploit the chemistry of thiolactons to construct a new family of modified polyamides with wide-ranging properties (to compare the results, we will consider the PA-12 provided by ARKEMA, as its repetition unit has the same number of carbon atoms of the repeating unit of the synthesized polymers): in this thesis the emphasis will be placed on the synthesis of a polyamide with pendent thiols and, in particular, we want to demonstrate that the presence of the thiol functionality brings improvements in terms of thermal stability, especially in the case in which the polymer in question is recycled and, therefore the formation of disulfide bridges is favored.
Not only that, the aim of the thesis is to prove how it is possible, through functionalization with thiol functionalities, to improve properties of polyamides such as adhesion to metals or even the tensile strength of the specimen itself.
