Abstract (Inglese)
Abstract (Italiano)
This work aims at reconstructing the grammaticalization path which led to the development of the Classical Arabic future gram (sa)wfa. In particular, the lexical source out of which the gram developed is identified with an adverb thanks to the comparison with other Semitic languages (Hebrew and Aramaic). The grammaticalization path, which involves the four basic mechanisms of phonetic reduction, decategorialization, semantic bleaching and category expansion, is reconstructed following the analysis of Bybee, Perkins and Pagliuca (1994) in the field of diachronic typology.
