The purpose of the work is to describe the evolution of significant parameters of a storage tank filled with cryogenic liquid, in conditions of complete material segregation, gaining heat from outside due to a temperature difference between fluid in the tank and external environment, in order to predict temperature and pressure changes in time.

The previous model used considered that liquid and vapor have the same temperature in the tank, but it possible to see from experimental data that there is a temperature difference between the phases due to different heat capacity. This work is innovative because the model developed is able to predict the different behavior of the phases in time. The model has been developed in collaboration with Gas and Heat S.p.a., which has offered its know-how regarding storage of cryogenic liquids.

In this thesis Matlab and Unisim Design are chosen to develop the dynamic simulation model. The former one allows a simpler development of a mono component simulation case, whereas the latter one allows the development of a multi component simulation case. The models developed on both software have been compared with experimental data and results from the previous model, and advantages and disadvantages of each models have been carefully analyzed.
