Il lavoro scaturisce dall'anilisi di documenti rinvenuti presso l'Archivio storico dell'Ospedale Neuropsichiatrico di Arezzo. Vengono presentati una serie di casi clinici di soldati ospedalizzati nel manicomio aretino a causa dei traumi nervosi e psichici provocati dalle terribili condizioni della vita di trincea durante la Prima guerra mondiale. Il lavoro riporta, inoltre, una panoramica sull'istituzione manicomiale italiana ed il dibattito medico-psichiatrico avvenuto negli anni del primo conflitto mondiale ed in quelli subito successivi.

The work stems from the analysis of documents found in the historical archive of the Neuropsychiatric Hospital of Arezzo. The work describes a series of clinical cases of soldiers hospitalized in the Arezzo mental asylum produced by the nervous and psychic trauma caused by the terrible conditions of trench life during the First World War.
The work also reports an overview of the Italian mental institution and the medical-psychiatric debate that took place in the years of the First World War and in the years immediately following.
