Le sigaraie furono tra le prime donne ad entrare a pieno titolo nel mondo del lavoro. Proprio nella Manifattura Tabacchi di Lucca si registrò la crescita più alta della manodopera femminile, a cui furono affidate tutte le fasi della lavorazione dei sigari. L’elaborato ha come obiettivo principale quello di analizzare le condizioni di fabbrica delle operaie della Manifattura Tabacchi dalla metà dell’Ottocento fino agli anni ’30 del Novecento; ho evidenziato sia gli aspetti negativi sia quelli positivi del lavoro in quest’ industria di Stato servendomi di documenti fondamentali come le schede matricolari e i fascicoli personali conservati in Archivio di Stato a Lucca.

The "sigaraie” were among the first women to completely enter the world of work. It was in the Manifattura Tabacchi of Lucca that the highest growth of the female workforce was recorded, which were entrusted with all the phases of the processing of cigars. The main objective of the paper is to analyze the factory conditions of the workers of the Tobacco Factory from the mid-nineteenth century to the 1930s; I highlighted the negative and the positive aspects of work in this state industry by using fundamental documents such as matricular registers and personal files kept in the State Archives in Lucca.
