Summary
This thesis is focused on the problem of optimally placing the regenerators in WSON.
Optical regenerators are considered for compensating the optical signal impairments. The objective is to minimize the number of regenerator in the network, required for accomodating the given traffic requests.
The main contributions are a thorough survey on the regenerator placement problem and an optimal
formulation of the regenerator site problem for the novel case of optical regenerators.
