Summary
This work of thesis has been developed during a 10 months stage at Siemens Mobile Communication Research & Development Labs. in Cinisello Balsamo (MI), and in collaboration with Politecnico of Milan. Moreover this thesis has interacted with and contributed to the European project WINNER (Wireless World Initiative New Radio) that has the objective to define the new radio interface for the future Beyond 3rd Generation (B3G) mobile systems.
The purpose of the thesis work has been the practical evaluation of the problems and advantages that arise from the integration and cooperation between protocol layers of the ISO-OSI pile. In particular, we have analyzed and proposed a new “cross layer” architecture that involves MAC layer and PHY layer in order to exploit efficiently the SDMA based transmission scheme. Particularly the main purpose has been the integration of this two levels with the introduction of an intermediate block called X- Layer. In order to carry out this integration we have introduced specific functionalities inside each level and we have carefully described the information exchange needed for the correct working of all system.
