Summary
The thesis inquires into the current state of the art for two types of underwater vehicles that, in the last years, are finding increasing use in scientific and commercial field, ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicle) and AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle), with the goal to project and propose an alternative propulsion system, compared to those currently used to increase the performance of themselves. The study was then conducted realizing a detailed analysis of the vehicles above mentioned and of the propulsion systems used for themselves. In particular were taken into consideration the performances related to electric propulsion modules, much used in underwater environment. All this led to the projecting of a low power propulsion system, consisted of a impeller coupled fluidodinamically to a runner, with the aim of replacing the planetary gearset currently used in underwater electric propulsion module.
