Abstract (Inglese)
Abstract (Italiano)
The main purpose of this thesis was to screen genomic and metagenomic libraries of epiphytic bacterial communities previously isolated from the surface of marine seaweed Ulva australis and Delisea pulchra. Through functional screening against the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans, the bacterial clones at the subject of this thesis have been characterized for their antinematodal activity. Here I showed that marine microorganisms are a source of bioactivity against the nematode C. elegans and those bacterial secondary metabolites might lead in the long terms to pharmaceuticals and better nematode management strategies.
