Abstract (Inglese)
Abstract (Italiano)
This thesis traces Roger Caillois' studies on the sacred from his entry into the French cultural scene in the early 1930s to his latest research in the 1970s. Precisely, the aim of this paper is to analyze the author's theory of the sacred by tracing the socio-historical and philosophical influences and demands that led Caillois to become interested in the sacred and to have a certain vision of it. Our discussion therefore also examines the developments and reworkings that the theory of the sacred presents in the course of Caillois' many different studies. This has allowed us to consider the author's theory of the sacred through a broader perspective of Cailloisian thought so as to show its foundational role.
