Summary
Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment is an eye disease involving retinal rupture, liquefaction of the vitreal gel and fluid flow into the subretinal space. Retinal holes from an emmetropic and a myopic eye were considered, and different hole positions were chosen for each and a kinematic law representing saccadic motion was imposed. FSI simulations, carried out with an immersed-boundary method, provided the "peeling stress" acting on the edge of the holes; these values were compared with reference values for detachment. In addition, retinal tears, at different positions on an emmetropic eye, were studied qualitatively in order to identify the most penalizing position.
