The specific goal of this study was to design a direct loading module that could be used in conjunction with a custom designed parallel plate flow chamber. The current chamber design allows for application of controlled shear stresses to cells seeded within. Implementation of the direct loading module would allow for application of tensile stress concomitant to flow induced shear stress. Therefore this study aimed to design the new loading module, which will extend the functionality and physiological relevance of the currently developed ProFlow© system.<br>
