Summary
The formulation of thermoplastic materials suitable for the realization of products with compostable end of life has been obtained with polyester matrices such as PBS, PCL and PBAT in different compositions with the addition of starch plasticized with glycerol. The formulations were processed by brabender plastograph at first and characterized by TGA-DTG, FT-IR, DSC and Tensile tests. Some of the best formulations were processed using a Collin laboratory twin-screw extruder, and characterized by SEM, MFI and Biodegradation in compost tests (ISO-14855). The selected formulations were used for the production of biodegradable gun-wads by injection molding. Other possible applications concern rigid packaging.
