Summary
The information avaiable to us about predynastic antropomorphic figurines are limited to dated report excavation and obsolete studies. Therefor, although there has been a renewed interest in these objects, right now there are no innovative proposals that consider the figurines in the light of new interpretative perspectives. Deities, fertility figures, representations of the mother goddess, these are just some of the readings still attributed today to figurines not only from Upper Egypt, but also from other cultural contexts. This thesis aims to retrace the history of the discovery of these artifacts and the approaches adopted to study them. A short catalog will be used to compare the figurines found in known archaeological contexts with those acquired, to study their iconography and gender in order to seek new hints of thought.
