La presente tesi ha come oggetto di studio la Versilia medievale, in particolare è riferita ai secoli VIII e XI. In questo lavoro son presi in esame le seguenti tematiche: gli aspetti storici dall'alto Medioevo al primo basso Medioevo, la viabilità sia per via d'acqua che terrestre), le attività produttive (le cave di marmo e le miniere), i castelli e le pievi della Versilia con particolare riferimento all'area di Camaiore, . In particolare lo studio del presente lavoro ha come argomento principale il castello di Montecastrese di cui sono analizzati i dati della sequenza stratrigrafica provenienti dalla prima campagna di scavo svolta nel 2009. La sequenza è organizzata in periodi, fasi e attività e analizza lo sviluppo del castello cercando di dare alcune risposte su come e quando certi processi storici siano avvenuti e in che forma. L’analisi è corredata dalle immagini dei reperti e dal matrix delle attività.

This thesis has as its object of study the medieval Versilia, in particular refers to the eighth and eleventh centuries. In this paper are examined the following issues: historical aspects from the Middle Ages to the first Middle Ages, the road is by water and land, productive activities (the marble quarries and mines), castles and the churches of Versilia with particular reference to the di Camaiore. In particular, the study of this work has as main topic the castle of Montecastrese, analyzing the sequence data stratrigrafica from the first season of excavations carried out in 2009. The sequence is divided into periods, phases and activities and analyzes the development of the castle trying to give some answers on how and when certain historical processes have occurred and in what form. The analysis is accompanied by images of the finds and the matrix of activities.
