The present dissertation aims to show the creativity of the English language in India from a morphological and lexical point of view. In order to gain a better understanding of how some linguistic phenomena work,I collected a corpus of headlines from the Times of India online. During the course of this work it will be shown that British newspapers headlines share the same linguistic features as Worldwide newspapers in English e.g omission of functional words; elliptical construction, specialized vocabulary. However, there are also many differences, which are peculiar to the variety of English that is used. Studying the features of Indian English I have found out that the headlines of the corpus show these differences very clearly, particularly in the creation of words (morphology) and in the lexicon (use of code/mixing; loanwords from Indigenous languages).
