Riassunto
This thesis presents the design and implementation of an extension of the Secure Middleware for Embedded Peer-to-Peer systems (released by the European project SMEPP) that features the possibility of accessing external third-party services. More specifically, the thesis exploits the Web Services Invocation Framework (WSIF) to enabling the invocation of WSDL-described services in the full version of the middleware (built on top of the J2SE platform), while it integrates suitable mechansisms to invoke REST and Java services in the light version of the SMEPP middleware (built on top of the CDC platform and designed for resource-limited devices).
