In maritime context, ports have to cooperate and coordinate their strategic and infrastructural choices in order to promote efficient and integrated port systems.
In this industry context the purpose of the present thesis work is to understand how to develop a model of coordination among Port Community Systems and if it is possible to enable a coordination among ports through these systems, since it is possible to consider these open electronic platforms as nodes of a more complex network.
Firstly an exploratory examination of current state of the art from an operative point of view has been conducted; successively, in the second part of this thesis work, the Tuscan Port Community System (TPCS) has been analysed as identified case study.
Results show that with a bottom up approach it is possible to identify coordination services among Port Community Systems and other IT systems utilized in port context and, in a more generalized vision, among ports and other nodes of the logistic transport chain.
