Riassunto
In recent years, air traffic has endured a considerable increase, mostly due to the low-cost companies. This event, combined with technological progress and security achieved, has made air traffic increasing every year.
Therefore, airfield pavements will be subject to an increasing number of daily movements.
The “Airport Pavement Management System” (APMS) is very important in order to allow better budget administration at the disposal of the airport companies, thanks to targeted and timely intervention, without sacrificing the standards for safety.
Many Italian airports are now equipping themselves with these systems, also due to the fact that, in October 2015, ENAC (which is the Italian Civil Aviation Authority) ruled that all Italians airports will have to adopt APMS within three years.
In this thesis, damage models for significant parameters such as IRI, RUT and PCI were predicted, starting from getting all measured data for all the segments of the airport pavements and filtering them to obtain a valid database with only some significant sections. The analysis was based on historical series from 2010 to 2015.
The object was to evaluate the influence of performance model calibrations within an APMS. As case of study the “Leonardo Da Vinci” international airport situated in Fiumicino, near Rome, was chosen. It is the largest airport in Italy and among the largest in Europe.
In the end, four damage models for IRI, RUT and PCI were obtained: section and network calibrations and, subsequently, empirical and recursive ones. These last two were get using a software for pavement maintenance management: A.I.R.P.O.R.T.S. developed by Dynatest.
The last step has been to do an economic analysis, finding which maintenance and rehabilitation alternative should be applied, in which year and at what costs.
