The objective of this study is to analyse the spare parts management system issue within the tissue industry with the aim of identifying possible solutions that can improve the related operations effectiveness and efficiency. Thanks to the chance given by the Sofidel Group to carry out a three months internship with the Business Control office, the spare parts management process was analysed in the two biggest Italian paper mills of the Group. Main criticalities identified are related to the growth of the maintenance expenses, the spare parts stock management, the maintenance budget formulation and the maintenance performances evaluation. Besides some easy to improve operative solutions in the day-by-day activity, the implementation of the Priority-Cost FMECA methodology, the adoption of a CMMS and the design of a management dashboard focused on the maintenance process have been deeply dealt in this essay as well as they were discussed with the top management of the company in order to evaluate their applicability and start working on their implementation.
