Riassunto
The following thesis work was conducted in order to create a self-assessment tool that allows companies inclined to Lean applications to evaluate their degree of predisposition to this methodology, well-known for its advantages deriving from reducing waste.
The necessity of this work revealed itself because of the several failing attempts of Lean applications noticed in literature, so demonstrating that prior feasibility evaluations (when conducted) were ineffective.
The approach initially regarded a literature review concerning Lean relevance, the complexity of its applications and related critical failure factors; this part shown that companies don't have a methodology to understand if they are suitable to lean applications and that the success in this field could be related to EFQM Principles.
Consequently, from these results a self-assessment tool has been created, in the form of check list, with weights and scores computable by using an Excel™ spreadsheet.
Lastly, this tool allows to provide a methodical and structured approach to assess the as-is Lean conditions of companies, their suitability and to define and prioritise needed lean interventions.
