Starting from the theoretical study of the concept of luxury and its market, it emerged that over the years the meaning of luxury has changed, depending very much on the cultural and social context. Furthermore, there has been an expansion of the luxury market, which is no longer limited to traditional sectors such as clothing, jewelry and accessories, but which is increasingly integrating sectors, such as catering and tourism.
The empirical analysis conducted in this thesis work was based on luxury in the hotel sector, taking the luxury hotels of the Sicily region as the reference sample.
The aim of the research was to identify the peculiar characteristics of these hotels and the strategies that have been adopted by the directors to fully satisfy the needs of their guests.
The survey also addressed potential customers to learn about the reasons that lead them to choose luxury hotels for their travels.
From the results obtained it emerges that luxury is no longer seen in terms of ostentation and opulence but is increasingly linked to the concept of experience, understood above all as something unique, exclusive, innovative and with a high degree of customization. Finally it is noted that the luxury hotel offer has succeeded in interpreting the needs and desires of customers and above all in anticipating their expectations; this has helped to increase Customer Satisfaction and also Customer loyalty.
