Riassunto
ABSTRACT
The aim of this thesis is the geomorphologic study of the area between the Castiglioncello promontory and the mouth of Cecina River and the production of geomorphological map with applicative purposes. The object has been achieved through indirect surveys such the analysis of historical maps, archaeological data, aerial photographs and Digital Terrain Model (DTM) generated from Lidar. The management in a GIS environment of the collected data allows the creation of a geomorphological geodatabase; GIS environment allow also both qualitative and quantitative analysis. Results of this study identified, based on their morphogenesis, three main sectors (western, central and eastern). In the western sector, parallel to the coast, marine and aeolian morphogenesis prevails but also the anthropogenic agent is active. The central sector comprises the retrodunal zone and is characterized until recent time by palustrine zones. The third is the largest and innermost eastern sector where the fluvial processes prevail.
Because humans establish in the study area since middle and upper Paleolithic, the comparison between geological, geomorphological and archaeological data allowed to assign "limiting age" to Pleistocene and Holocene deposits and to some morphological units of this area. Lastly, the building of geodatabase according to geomorphological key words constitutes the first step for the creation of a versatile database that can be update and enrich with data coming from other sources.
