Riassunto
Measuring well-being and poverty has become a key point of our economies. However, quantifying these phenomena is not easy due to their multidimensionality. A common framework for measuring poverty and social exclusion is the set of the Laeken indicators, they include the Head Count Ratio and other intensity poverty measures. In order to study the italian well-being we can consider the indicators of the BES (Equitable and Sustainable Well-being), a set of indicators composed by 12 dimensions. This thesis aims to analyse poverty and well-being at local level in Tuscany using a multidimensional dashboard approach. Data from EU-SILC and the italian Census have been used. Although, we cannot compute direct estimates using EU-SILC when we want to measure poverty at a sub-regional level. In fact, the survey is not statistical representative at the sub-regional level. Hence, the estimation process must be conducted using Small Area Estimation methodologies. In this work we have applied the EBLUP and the EBP methods to the social exclusion indicators. In addition, the direct estimates have been performed in order to show the gain in efficiency by comparing the Mean Square Errors of the estimates.
