Riassunto
The thesis describes the motivations and the overall architecture of the Application Layer Traffic Optimization (ALTO) system. Most part of it is then dedicated to a performance analysis of that system into a real experimental scenario, built into the PlanetLab research network. Special attention is given to the ALTO performance from an ISP point of view as well as from an application point of view, specifically a Peer-to-Peer application like BitTorrent.
