This thesis work deals with the design of a behavior-based safety (BBS) management system and its introduction in a real manufacturing background. BBS has been introduced in three departments of Resana plant, one of the most important production site of Materis Paints Italy.
Thanks to the daily examination of production activities, process mapping has been possible and target safety behaviors have been identified; this led to the design of observation process, the core of BBS. Workers, key players of BBS management system, daily observed each other and filled up checklists to point out safe and unsafe behaviors.
Observation data have shown safety performance improvements and have allowed to set performance and process improvement targets.
