Felisberto Hernández (1902-1964) è uno scrittore di cui si conosce ancora poco, almeno, tra i lettori del mondo accademico. Egli è, senza dubbio, uno degli esponenti della narrativa ispanoamericana del XX secolo, la complessità dei suoi racconti così come la loro carica simbolica stabiliscono sempre una nuova sfida di lettura per il critico letterario. In questo contesto, si propone la traduzione e l’analisi dei racconti dell’autore uruguaiano El caballo perdido, El cocodrilo, Lucrecia, Úusula e Manos equivocadas, mettendone in luce i meccanismi che strutturano e danno vita alla narrazione; in questi racconti grande rilevanza hanno l’evocazione dei ricordi e la frammentazione del corpo, il doppio processo della cosificazione dell’essere umano e l’umanizzazione degli oggetti. In questo lavoro si è cercato di analizzare la collocazione della narrativa di Hernández nella letteratura fantastica e di focalizzare le caratteristiche. Felisberto Hernández ispirò Calvino e Gabriel Garcia Marquez, tra tanti altri, ma il fascino di questi racconti incantati che narrano le avventure di un povero pianista possono ingannare il lettore superficiale: l’immaginazione di Hernández è estremamente fertile, la sua prosa è solo apparentemente semplice perchè tende ad essere molto intrigante.

ABSTRACT

Felisberto Hernandez (1902-1964) is yet a writer from whom little is known, at least among those readers outside of the academic world. He is undoubtedly one of the most interesting Latin-American authors of the XX century. The complexity of his short stories as well as their symbolism always implies a new challenge for the literary critic. It is within this context that it is proposed the translation and the analysis of El caballo perdido, El cocodrilo, Lucrecia, Úusula e Manos equivocadas, written by the Uruguayan writer. In the stories what is relevant is the evocation and appeal to memory, the emphasis is laid on the fragmentation of the body and the rhetorical displacement through which the double processes of “thingification” of the human and the humanization of objects works. In this work I try to incorporate Hernandez’s narrative to the intricate world of the Fantasy Literature, i.e., I try to locate some stories of the Uruguayan writer, and in that sense unravel some of their characteristics to connect them with the literary genre. Felisberto Hernandez influenced Calvino and Gabriel Garcia Marquez, among others, but the appeal of these fey tales that recount the adventures of a poor pianist may elude the casual reader: Hernandez’s imagination is extremely fertile, but his prose is baggy and he tends to trot out intriguing.
